She Squad: A Spotlight on The Motherchic/CapitalZ CoFounder, Lindsey Schuster

When it comes to mastering the juggle of motherhood, business, and self-care, Lindsey Schuster makes it look effortless—but as she’ll tell you, the magic lies in systems that actually support your life. As the voice behind The Motherchic and co-founder of CapitalZ, Lindsey has built a thriving brand that inspires women to embrace style and confidence, even in the chaos of everyday life.

We’ve had the pleasure of serving Lindsey for over eight years—yes, from newborn snuggles to business meetings—and we knew it was time to share her story. In this exclusive interview, she opens up about her favorite hair transformations, her secret to feeling put together on even the busiest days, and what it really takes to build a business from the ground up.

From kitchen-chair hair appointments to launching fashion lines, Lindsey reminds us all that confidence can be styled—and it starts with carving out space for yourself. Let’s dive in!

You’ve been a Concihairge client for over 8 years — from your youngest son’s newborn days to now. How has having in-home hair services impacted your life?

The best thing about Concihairge? You get amazing, high-quality salon treatment without missing a beat. As much as I used to love going to the salon, it always took a big chunk out of my day. With four kids and two businesses, I love that I can just walk to my kitchen, keep working or answering emails, and get my hair done—without falling behind. The entire in-home experience is seamless and stress-free.

What’s been your favorite hairstyle or color transformation over the years?

I love switching up my hair, and I have so much trust in the Concihairge stylists that I usually just say, “What do you think I should do?”—and then I go for it! Hair, like fashion, should be fun and an expression of who you are. I’ve loved having extensions just as much as I’ve loved chopping it all off and going three shades lighter. It’s been fun to look back and see how my hair has evolved over the years. And like any woman, I always seem to want what I don’t have—when it was long, I craved a chop, and when it was short, I missed the length. Luckily, Concihairge makes it easy to change things up and always makes it look natural.

As a busy mom and business owner, what’s your go-to hair look when you’re on the move?

For whatever reason, I’m just not a ponytail girl. So when I’m on the go and don’t have time to do my hair, I throw on a cute trucker hat and call it a day!

What’s your secret to feeling put together on days when life feels chaotic?

If I’ve worked out, I instantly feel more put together. On days when I skip it—whatever the reason—I just feel off and less productive. Exercise is my favorite way to start the day; it sets the tone and helps me feel like the best version of myself.

Mother Chic: Building a Brand for the Modern Multitasking Woman

You’ve built such an inspiring career as The Motherchic and now a co-founder and co-owner of CapitalZ. What motivated you to create your own brand of curated fashion and home accents?

After years of helping women get dressed and sharing style inspiration, one thing became clear—finishing the look was often the missing piece. Most of the women in this community are constantly on the go, juggling a million things. We wanted to create a line of accessories that could instantly elevate any outfit—whether it’s leggings and a hoodie or jeans and a blazer.

Throw on one of our hats and a sling bag, and suddenly you’re styled, cute, and ready to take on a full day of weekend activities. Our totes and crossbodies bring just the right amount of personality and pop—while still being super functional. (Yes, we put pockets everywhere you’d want them!)

Starting a brand has been WAY harder and way more work than I ever imagined, but seeing women wear our pieces and feel confident makes it all worth it. I’m so proud of what we’ve built.

You make the balancing act of motherhood and entrepreneurship look pretty flawless. Can you share your 3 favorite tips that help you achieve a greater balance? (Jess answer/reaction)

This is something we all struggle with, and honestly, it’s always a work in progress—some days are better than others. For me, taking care of myself first is key. If I get a workout in, shower, do my hair, and throw on a little makeup, I’m in a much better headspace to take care of everyone else.

I try to get most of my work done while the kids are in school, but working in social media is tricky—it never really stops. The more I pour into it, the more my business grows. I’ve learned to be intentional about putting my computer away and limiting phone time in the evenings when I’m with my kids and shuttling them around. Then I’ll pick it back up once the house quiets down.

And my final tip? Sleep. I’m in bed by 10 and up by 6:45. If I’m not well-rested, I’m not productive—and everyone feels it.

What’s been your proudest moment so far as a business owner?

I’m just really proud that we did it. We had a vision and figured out how to bring it to life—from creating a prototype and sourcing materials to finding a manufacturer, setting up a website, and learning how to ship and store inventory. It was like learning a whole new language.

The fact that we now have a brand I genuinely love, use every single day, and see other people loving enough to buy and gift—that makes all the hard work worth it. Honestly, if I had known how much work it would take, I probably would’ve been too overwhelmed to start.

But that’s the beauty of doing something on your own: there’s no set timeline. We took our time, took tiny baby steps, and learned as we went. And truthfully? We’re still learning every single day.

You’ve been growing your business for several years now and have inspired hundreds of women to start a business or personal brand. If you had the opportunity to give fellow women 3 tips to help accelerate their growth what would those 3 tips be?

Don’t be in it just for the money. I worked for years simply because I loved it—and didn’t make a cent. It took a lot of trial and error, showing up consistently, and putting myself out there to finally turn my passion into a career.

Growth doesn’t happen overnight. It’s usually slow and steady. My advice? Be niche, be authentic, and show up every single day. The two biggest pillars of growth are consistency and high-quality content.

And most importantly, give your audience a reason to come back. Engage with them, listen to them, get to know them. We spend most of our day talking with our audience, answering their questions, and building a true community—and that’s where the magic happens.

What’s your must-have accessory from your own line, CapitalZ?

I truly think our sling bags are life-changing. At this point, they’ve basically become an appendage. I wear mine daily—sometimes even around the house. They’re just that good.

Any behind-the-scenes stories about building CapitalZ that most people don’t know?

We cried a lot. Doubted ourselves a lot. Got overwhelmed a lot. We also laugh a lot so there’s that!

Best place to grab a quick, feel-good meal when you’re on the go with work or your kids?

Pretty sure our goal in life is to have a dedicated table at Christophers in Wayne. We eat there at least once per week and it’s a place my entire family enjoys. My husband and I also love Allessandro’s – their cocktails are next level and their food is to die for!

Favorite workout spot?

I love running outside and also doing Orangetheory.

Any favorite non-profits in the area you are passionate about supporting?

My son and I are part of the Young Men’s Service League, an organization where mothers and sons serve together. Over the past year, we’ve had the opportunity to support several amazing local organizations through various service projects—West Chester Food Cupboard, Cradles to Crayons, Family Promise, and ACEing Autism, just to name a few. It’s been such a meaningful way to spend time together while giving back to our community.

What’s your perfect “day off” in the city (or the suburbs)?

Day off? I don’t know her :)But in all seriousness, if I were to take a minute for myself, there’s nothing better than a massage.
